Gutu residents benefit from Presidential Medical Outreach Programme

Story by Mercy Bofu-Matinha

THE ZANU PF-led government continues to ensure communities have access to essential services with the people of Gutu being the latest to benefit under the Presidential Medical Outreach Programme.

Beneficiaries of the programme thanked President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his administration for ensuring no place is left behind in accessing healthcare services.

“Today we had an opportunity to be examined by health experts including doctors, and on top of that we received medication freely. Yes in our communities we have got clinics but sometimes it is expensive to consult experts hence we appreciate today’s programme,” a beneficiary said.

“In our communities, we are seeing the government building more clinics and we appreciate that because we no longer walk more than five kilometers to access healthcare centres,” a community member said.

The Minister of State for National Security, Honorable Lovemore Matuke who is also ZANU PF Politburo Member and area Legislator Honourable Winston Chitando noted that community members must take advantage of empowerment programmes implemented by the government for improved livelihoods.

“The programme we are witnessing today is one of the many programmes being implemented by President Mnangagwa and his administration, especially in rural communities. Today we are benefitting under the programme, the Presidential Goat Pass-On Scheme, Village Business Units, Heifer Schemes and the Presidential Solar Scheme coming all meant to empower us,” Honorable Matuke said.

”Through these programmes, we are all supporting President Mnangagwa’s vision of leaving no one and no place behind. We have been conducting these medical outreach for quite some time and we are not going to stop in an effort to ensure our communities have access to healthcare services,” Honorable Chitando said.

The Presidential medical outreach programme will continue benefitting rural communities across the country.

“We had an overwhelming response today here in Gutu Central. We continue to move across the country giving free first aid training, our aim is to ensure that communities are equipped to handle emergency medical cases,” Discovery Ambulance Chief Executive Officer, David Munowenyu said.

Apart from medical outreach programmes, the government is implementing various programmes to strengthen the health sector through the establishment of clinics, and hospitals, procurement of health equipment and training of more medical personnel.
