GREEN FUEL’S three-year stint in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League has come to an end.
The Chisumbanje-based club was relegated after a 1-1 home draw against Triangle United this Sunday, marking the end of their journey in the top-flight league.
The final whistle at Green Fuel Arena was more than a sound; it was a wave of relief for Triangle United fans, while despair swept through the home side.
In a match focused on survival rather than flair, the Sugar Sugar boys earned the result they needed.
Coming from behind, they secured a draw that condemned Green Fuel, who required a win to stay in the top flight.
“We are happy we managed to survive relegation. We hope to play better next season and not just play for survival, but play football,” Goalkeeper, Triangle United, Takudzwa Chikosi said.
“It was not an easy game, but we pulled through. We thank God,” Triangle Forward, Elton Njini said.
Green Fuel will compete in the Eastern Region Division One next season.
“We are not happy; we expected the best. But anyway, this is football,” a Green Fuel supporter said.
“The game started well, and we hoped for the best. It was a fair game,” a soccer fan said.
Triangle United now has one more chance to claim silverware, as they face Dynamos next week in the final of the Chibuku Super Cup.
