Govt on farming joint ventures propelling productivity

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, Professor Obert Jiri assessed a thriving joint venture farming project at Mugagao Farm in Bindura District last weekend.

The joint venture project, owned by Esther Muzariri, Debra Marufu, and Inamo Enterprises, boasts of 240 hectares of-maize, 110 hectares soya beans, 60 hectares of sorghum, and 40 hectares of potatoes.

“Farming business is excelling at the Mugagao joint venture as both partners are making a headway as far as crop production is concerned,” said joint venture manager, Mr Edward Rupiya.

Neighbouring farmers are also appreciative of the joint venture initiative.

Provincial Agritex director, Mrs Fillipa Rwambiwa expressed satisfaction with the state of crops in the provinces, saying over 60% of the crops are flourishing.

“We are grateful for the rains we have just received, sixty percent of the crop looks very good twenty percent is fairly good and ten percent is not satisfactory but as we encourage our farmers to do good agronomic practices we are seeing a great change,” she said.
