Govt intensifies efforts to end HIV/AIDS in children

THE government is intensifying efforts to end HIV and AIDS in children, tackling disparities in treatment and care as the nation works towards ending HIV and AIDS by 2030.

In a bid to accelerate progress towards ending HIV/AIDS in children, the government has announced plans to intensify its focus on improving HIV treatment, diagnosis, and care for young people in 2025.

According to officials, despite progress made in the fight against HIV and AIDS, children remain disproportionately affected, with treatment rates falling below target.

To address this gap, the government has pledged to prioritise the improvement of treatment, diagnosis, and care for children living with HIV.

“In terms of HIV and AIDS treatment, children are still quite below the target and that is going to be one of our focus areas this 2025, to make sure that we improve treatment in children, improve diagnosis, and improve treatment so that we also don’t have children lagging behind,” Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr Douglas Mombeshora said.

Zimbabwe has made significant progress in achieving the 95-95-95 HIV and AIDS fast track targets among adults.
