THE Government provided digital tablets to Junior Parliamentarians in the Midlands Province as part of efforts to strengthen digital literacy and equip young leaders with the tools needed for research, communication and learning.

The tablets were handed over at the Gweru Government Complex, in line with the national thrust to expand access to technology and narrow the digital divide between rural and urban learners. Officials say the initiative is intended to ensure that young representatives are able to meaningfully participate in policy discussions and community engagement using modern digital tools.

For many Junior Parliamentarians, the devices mark a significant step forward.

“These devices will make it easier for us to research and communicate, allowing us to connect with peers and communities across Zimbabwe,” a junior parliamentarian said.

“We will put these gadgets to good use. We can now conduct research, and these gadgets ensure our inclusion in the global village,” another noted.

“For many parliamentarians in rural areas, this will be the first personal device. It will help us access information and connect with the world in ways we could only imagine before,” another added.

Handing over tablets, Midlands Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Owen Ncube implored the junior parliamentarians to use the gadgets responsibly for both personal development and national growth.

“I urge you to use these gadgets responsibly for your personal benefit and growth, as well as for the benefit of your peers and communities. Partner with the government in the fight against drug and substance abuse within your schools and communities,” he said.

The initiative is part of the government’s broader effort to integrate technology into youth development programmes and empower the next generation of leaders through digital tools and connectivity.
