THE government has noted with grave concern the escalating and malicious abuse of digital and traditional media platforms by certain individuals bent on tarnishing the image of government officials and private citizens.
In a statement this Wednesday, the Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Dr Jenfan Muswere, said this conduct transcends legitimate criticism and constitutes character assassination and a deliberate attempt to divide Zimbabweans.
He said while freedom of expression is provided for in the Constitution, this right does not extend to the dissemination of hate speech, or orchestrated campaigns of lies aimed at individuals.
The Minister warned that any person or entity found engaging in, financing, or promoting these unwarranted attacks will face the full wrath of the law.
