THE Second Republic’s determination to bridge the digital gap between urban and rural communities has seen the launch of the Tshelanyemba Digital Centre in Matobo District, Matabeleland South Province, the first to be commissioned under the rebranded Community Information Centres programme.

Residents of Tshelanyemba, both young and old, applauded government’s efforts to provide access to digital tools that will enhance literacy, research and economic opportunities.

“You can see how old I am, but I have decided to come to this digital centre so that I can be well versed with this technology,” a resident said.

“As a school child, I am happy because I will be able to research and do homework,” a pupil noted.

“I hope to learn more from this digital Centre so that I can also assist my nephews with their homework,” another resident stated.

The government encouraged communities to embrace the digital centres for their benefit, with traditional leaders pledging to take care of the gadgets.

“This is a very important investment and I would like to encourage my fellow traditional leaders to take care of this digital centre,” Chief Fuyana said.

“This facility is yours and we are here because President Emmerson Mnangagwa said no one and no place should be left behind and as such, utilise it to research more about farming, e-commerce and many more and keep it safe,” Minister of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services, Honourable Tatenda Mavetera echoed.

The government is providing access to digital tools to enhance digital literacy and transformation.

The launch of the Digital Centre at Tshelanyemba is expected to bridge the digital gap between rural and urban communities.

Tshelanyemba Digital Centre is the first to be launched after the rebranding of community information centres. It is expected to empower individuals with digital skills as the country gravitates towards Vision 2030.
