Glamour Boys get another dance in the CAF Confederation Cup

Harare giants Dynamos got another chance to represent the country in the CAF Confederation Cup after completing back-to-back wins in the Chibuku Super Cup final at the weekend.

Dembare had a not-so-convincing campaign on the domestic scene and a premature exit in the CAF Confederation Cup, something not synonymous with the Glamour Boys.

The 1998 Dynamos class remains as history-makers, having lost to Cote d’Ivoire’s ASEC Mimosa in the Champions League final.

For the 2024 season, the Glamour Boys will have the Chibuku Super Cup trophy as their consolation prize which guarantees them a ticket to the CAF Confederation Cup.

Dynamos would want to forget their previous campaign after being bundled out by Botswana side Orapa United during the first round.

It was a campaign which had all odds against the Glamour Boys who had to fulfil matches away from home owing to the absence of a CAF-certified stadium.

Dynamos fans believe the next campaign should bring that lost glamour.

Fans are excited.

“We are happy to make the milestone. We hope for thorough preparations for the tournament,” a fan told the ZBC News.

Another said, “We completed back-to-back wins. It’s history in the making. We now need to put up good preparations for the Confederation Cup.”

“We had a disadvantage in the previous campaign. We hope the government will step in and at least have one stadium approved the fans are passionate about football. They would travel to witness the team play. So we hope playing at home will give us an edge,” another noted.

The Dynamos leadership has taken lessons from the previous campaign.

“We are happy for the achievement, but what we are seized with is having good preparations for the next tournament,” chief executive officer, Jonathan Mashingaidze said.

Dynamos beat Ngezi Platinum 4-2 on the lottery after the two teams had ended 1-all during regulation time, in a repeat of last year’s final, albeit on a different venue, the ceremonial home of local football – Rufaro Stadium.
