Geo Pomona Waste-to-Energy project sets benchmark for modern waste management

Story by Peter Chivhima

THE Geo Pomona Waste-to-Energy project continues to set the pace in modern waste management, with plans underway to replicate the initiative across the country.

The project is emerging as a leading model for sustainable waste management and environmental protection. It is attracting growing interest from local authorities, regional partners, and international organisations seeking to learn from its best practices and innovative approach.

Kadoma City Council officials visited the waste-to-energy facility this Friday with the council’s Director of Health, Dr Daniel Chirundu, saying the trip had given them valuable insights.

“We are impressed with what we have seen here. I used to come here before, but the facility has transformed completely. The level of organisation, efficiency, and innovation is remarkable. We intend to implement similar systems in Kadoma, improving waste management, creating jobs, and promoting a cleaner, healthier environment for our residents.

“This visit has given us valuable insights that will shape the future of sanitation in our city,” Kadoma City Council-Acting Town Council Mr Willard Mangwengwende weighed in.

“We are happy that in terms of health, Geo Pomona Waste Management is following all the protocols. This is truly impressive. From proper waste segregation to stringent hygiene measures, the facility sets a high standard for environmental safety.”

Plans are at an advanced stage to implement the same project across the country to enhance environmental sustainability.

Geo Pomona Waste Management Chief Executive Officer and Executive Chairperson Dr Dilesh Nguwaya added, “The visit by several organisations, companies and nations here shows that as a company, we are doing a good job. In terms of replicating the same to other provinces, there is a Cabinet Authority so that we help in waste management and environmental sustainability.”

The visit is part of ongoing efforts by municipalities across the country to modernise waste management systems and improve service delivery in line with national development priorities.

Besides attracting global interest, the company employs thousands of workers, complementing government efforts in creating life-changing opportunities for the citizenry.
