ZIMBABWE made a strong start to the 2025 Africa Netball Cup with an impressive 48-36 win over Namibia at the Griffin Sayenda Sports Complex in Lilongwe, Malawi, this Monday.

Despite coming off a fourth-place finish at the Celtic Cup, the Gems were sluggish in the early stages and trailed 11-9 after the first quarter.

The Gems, however, started to show their class in the second quarter, going to halftime leading 22-19.

The Gems continued to pile the pressure, further stretching their lead at the end of the third quarter with Zimbabwe firmly in control at 35-26.

They were relentless in the 4th quarter, putting up a defensive masterclass led by goal-defender Kelly Muyambo, who was named player of the match.

With more points on the board, Zimbabwe romped to a 48-36 victory.

The Gems are back on the court this Tuesday as they face continental heavyweights, Uganda, after the two played out to an exciting encounter at the Celtic Cup, which narrowly ended in favour of the East Africans.

Zimbabwe are gunning for gold at the nine-team tournament after settling for bronze last year.
