Fresh start, high hopes, Warriors Take on Kenya Under Nees

Story by Lawrence Trusida, Sports Editor

Senior players are confident Zimbabwe will do well under new coach Micheal Nees who makes his debut when the Warriors take on Kenya in a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Kampala, Uganda this Friday.

It will be the dawn of a new era when Zimbabwe takes on Kenya on Friday with new coach Micheal Nees making his debut in the hot seat.

Foreign coaches have traditionally brought some enthusiasm to Zimbabwean football, but only Zdravko Logarusic guided the Warriors to AFCON qualification.

Having had a few training sessions under Nees, senior players believe the German is the right man for the job.

“We had conversations before we could, and also now we have had 2 or 3 sessions, and there is clarity in everything. He is putting his ideas across nicely and believe we will do well,” said Warrior’s vice-captain, Marshal Munetsi.

“It has been a good time with the team the coach is fantastic we understand everything that he is saying and he has lots of experience behind him that is going to benefit us,” noted Warriors forward, Khama Billiat.

The Warriors have a clean bill of health as they look to get one over Kenya, a side that has troubled Zimbabwe in the past few meetings.
