Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube, Gweru real estate mogul Smelly Dube honoured in London

By ZBC Reporter

Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion Minister, Professor Mthuli Ncube was this Friday voted Best Finance Minister and named among 100 Most Reputable People and African Finance Minister of The Year at a two-day Global Reputation Forum held in Westminister, London yesterday.

The Minister was awarded for steering the Zimbabwean economy to a 3% growth trajectory in the face of the ravaging COVID-19 pandemic, with limited local resources.

“In today’s rapidly evolving financial landscape, the convergence of technology and banking has given rise to a new era of financial management challenges and the Zimbabwean Minister, with a shoe string budget, managed to fight the COVID-19 pandemic with the government and country recording minimal COVID-19 related human deaths,” noted Reputation Poll International chairman, Lord Jorn D Waverly when presenting the Minister with the award.

In his keynote address at the event, which was also attended by some members of the UK House of the Lords, Minister Ncube said Zimbabwe has also managed to steadly grow the economy and improve on infrustructure development under the Second Republic, despite the burden of illegal sanctions.

“We have also recently presented a budget proposal that is meant to improve our economy,” the Minister added.

Zimbabwean representative in the United Kingdom, Ambassador Christian Katsande said the Second Republic has managed to grow the economy under harsh economic conditions and urged Zimbabweans living in the UK to take advantage of the opportunities created by the government to invest back home.

He said investors should also take advantage of the Second Republic’s re-engangement drive to invest in Zimbabwe.

“We have borne witness to the fruits of the re-engagement drive by the Second Republic and therefore encourage investors to take the opportunity of the new ‘open for business’ approach,” he said.

Meanwhile, Gweru businesswoman, Dr Smelly Dube, who also attended the prestigious event in the UK, received a corporate leadership award at a ceremony attended by various bussiness leaders drawn from around the globe.
