Dynamos will represent Zimbabwe in the CAF Confederation Cup for a second season running after beating rivals Ngezi Platinum Stars four-two on penalties following a one-all draw in regulation time in the Chibuku Super Cup final at Rufaro Stadium this Saturday.
Warriors second choice shot stopper, Martin Mapisa’s penalty heroics, have sealed another ticket in the African safari for Harare giants Dynamos, as Dembare becomes the first team to lift the Chibuku Super Cup in consecutive seasons.
Dynamos overcame their league woes by successfully reclaiming their cup title this Saturday at Rufaro Stadium thanks to a double save from their first choice goalie to dismiss Ngezi Platinum Stars.
The Harare giants who finished eighth in the PSL had a massive rebound in the second half against their nemesis, masterminding a remarkable second half comeback after being put to trail in the first half.
Dynamos crawled back into the match, looking hungrier in the second half forcing the match into extra-time.
Extra-time yielded no result for either team forcing the game into the dreaded penalty shootout, in which Mapisa appeared to wear gloves with glue, while his players looked composed converting all their four spot kicks to win Dembare the US$75 000 price money on offer.
The victory sealed history for Dynamos, who will yet again represent Zimbabwe in the CAF Confederation Cup after narrowly missing the group stages this year.
Meanwhile, it is back to the drawing board for Ngezi Platinum Stars who have lost two Chibuku Super Cup finals against Dynamos.
