Dr Gata honoured as national hero for energy sector contributions

THE Government says late national hero, ZESA Holdings Executive  Chairperson Dr Sydney Gata, deserves to be honoured due to his contribution to the energy sector and national development.

This was said by the ZANU PF National Chairperson, Cde Oppah Muchinguri kashiri, who is also the Minister of Defence when she delivered the message of the national hero status to the Gata family in Harare Sunday evening.

Officially announcing the national hero status at the family home in Harare  Cde Muchinguri Kashiri said the late Dr Gata worked hard in the energy sector.

“The Government says the late national hero Dr Gata deserves to be honoured due to his contribution to the energy sector and national development,” said Cde Muchinguri Kashiri.

The late Dr Gata’s daughter, Tanyaradzwa Angela Gumbo, expressed the family’s gratitude for the national recognition.

“We want to thank the government for conferring national hero status on Dr Gata. We understand this is a recognition of his astute leadership and his contribution to the country’s energy sector. The national hero status means a great deal to us as a family, and we are deeply grateful,” she said.

A distinguished Energy, Power, and Infrastructure Development Specialist, Dr Gata is credited for dedicating his life to advancing energy solutions and infrastructure development in the country.

This Saturday, President Emmerson Mnangagwa visited the family home in Harare to pay his condolences, describing the late Dr Gata as a brilliant individual with high integrity who contributed immensely to the country’s energy sector.

Dr Gata died on Thursday after a short illness at the age of 79.

He is survived by his wife, Honourable Angeline Gata, the Deputy Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, children, and grandchildren.
