Story by Fungai Jachi, Courts Reporter

DOMESTIC violence and theft account for nearly half the number of criminal cases handled in Harare, according to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ).

The statistics were revealed in a post on the NPAZ’s X account.

Over 600 cases of domestic violence in Harare, Mbare, Chitungwiza, Norton and Epworth courts were brought forward, with 471 having been completed.

599 theft cases were brought before the various courts in Harare with 507 completed.

Violent crimes including armed robbery, rape and murder account for over 500 cases brought before the courts.

During the second quarter, more than 3 000 cases were handled, with more than 2000 completed, marking a significant milestone in NPA’s efforts to curb crime.

The authority has also tightened up procedures to ensure cases are expedited with minimum postponements.
