FORMER Warriors and Golden Arrows defensive midfielder Danny ‘Deco’ Phiri believes he still has a lot to offer after joining ambitious premiership side Bulawayo Chiefs.
Retracing footsteps is usually viewed with negative connotations but for former Warriors and Golden Arrows defensive midfielder Danny Phiri, there is nothing sinister about such a move.
A player of high stats, Deco opted for the Twitter Boys after being convinced by coach Lizwe Sweswe.
The 33-year-old Deco, who also had a stint in Tanzania, believes his pair of legs can still carry him although he now needs to start crafting an exit strategy.
“Bulawayo chiefs are a good club, well managed and remember they are Chibuku Cup holders. It is not a mean feat as it speaks of their potential. My coming here was a welcome development but credit to coach Sweswe who convinced me but I missed home,” he said.
Deco made his name at the Gamecocks after joining Bantu Rovers.
The defensive midfielder moved to the South African top-flight side Golden Arrows in 2016 before being released in 2021.
The 2015 Soccer Star of the Year then moved to Tanzania where he turned out for Diamond Trust Bank.
On a rebuilding exercise after a mass exodus of players, the Twitter Boys tied down Malvin Mkolo, Obriel Chirinda, Billy Vheremu, Thomas Mudzengere, Ben Nyaunzwi, Mandlenkosi Gasela, Malvern Hativagone and brought in forward Stanson Khanye from Division One side Quality Foods.
