GOVERNMENT has urged churches to continue playing an active role in peacebuilding and promoting good governance following an intercession crusade held in Guruve after the serial murders that shocked the community.

Members of the St John Apostolic Church of the Whole World joined government leaders at Guruve Primary School on Sunday for a prayer crusade aimed at bringing peace, healing and comfort to residents affected by the killings linked to alleged serial murder suspect Anymore Zvitsa.

A church member said the gathering sought to restore hope within the community.

“We are here in Guruve for a crusade preaching the word of God. We are also here to cleanse the place and comfort people after the loss of life. We pray for peace and, as a church, we are mandated to preach the Gospel to the whole world.”

Another member said the church also supports vulnerable members of society.

“We work with orphans and widows, encouraging them to fellowship with others and helping them in any way we can.”

A congregant said fears ahead of the visit had not materialised.

“When we heard we were coming here, we were afraid because of what happened, but there were no incidents.”

Mashonaland Central Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Christopher Magomo said churches remain important partners in promoting moral values, peace and development.

“The organised church discourages child marriage, theft and rape. Churches help us a lot in governance and development. Our President always says no one must be left behind in development.”

The crusade concluded with prayers for peace, reconciliation and healing in Guruve and across the country.
