GOVERNMENT has commissioned Tjemahale Secondary School in Bulilima District, Matabeleland South Province, as it continues expanding access to quality education under the Second Republic.
The new school marks another milestone in efforts to improve access to education in Bulilima, where several learning institutions have been established in recent years to reduce the distances travelled by learners.
During the second term of 2026 alone, Norwood, Nlibgwane, Goba and Hungwa schools opened, joining Zompata, commissioned in 2023, Mafa in 2024 and Ndiweni in 2025.
Tjemahale Secondary School was built through a partnership involving Government funding under Devolution and the Constituency Development Fund, the diaspora community and development partners.
Bulilima Rural District Council Chief Executive Officer Mr Billiat Mlauzi described the project as a major step towards improving education access.
“Today we commission Tjemahale Secondary School to mark yet another historic milestone in Bulilima District’s development trajectory. This achievement enhances access to education and improves service delivery as we journey towards Vision 2030,” he said.
Bulilima Rural District Council Chairperson Mr Land Ndebele said the district continues to record significant infrastructure development.
“As Bulilima District, we currently have 11 schools under construction, excluding clinics and bridges. This demonstrates that indeed ilizwe lakhiwa ngabanikazi balo (a country is built by its own people),” he said.
Bulilima legislator Honourable Dingumuzi Phuti commended the diaspora community for supporting the project.
“As children of Bulilima, we have demonstrated that we can build our country. I salute the diaspora community for contributing to this cause; today we look at this school with pride because we have done it.”
The school is also among the beneficiaries of the 40 science and computer laboratories being constructed under the Independence legacy projects.
Matabeleland South Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Albert Nguluvhe, assured the community that the science laboratory will be completed and fully equipped.
“I want to assure the people of Bulilima that we are going to complete and equip this science laboratory because the funds are available. This strategic investment demonstrates Government’s unwavering commitment to strengthening science, technology and innovation as drivers of industrialisation,” he said.
The commissioning of Tjemahale Secondary School forms part of the Second Republic’s broader programme to improve access to education through the construction of new schools and the deployment of more teachers nationwide.
