Government has pledged its commitment in ensuring equal opportunities for children with disability for them to realise their full potential.

Pupils at Magareth Hugo School for the Blind, also known as Capota, were treated to an early Christmas party this Friday, as they gifts in a heart-warming gesture.

“We are excited today that we were spoiled with some goodies such that we have a great Christmas party. It shows that there are people out there who are always thinking about us,” one of the beneficiaries told the ZBC News.

Another said, “We received some Christmas clothes, food stuffs and school necessities. Again, we were treated to some good music refreshing with others.”

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Mr Nick Mangwana was the Guest of Honour.

“We come to encourage you that you are very important as our children, even in our government we prioritize you, that is why our President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s mantra emphasizes on leaving no one and no place behind. We are saying everyone has a duty to play to ensure development of our country, including you pupils at Capota,” he said.

Organisers of the event pledged to assist the less privileged.

“We partnered as Mhlanga family and other mining companies to ensure we put a smile on our children here at Magareth Hugo School for the Blind. These are our future leaders, hence we must not forget them especially during the Christmas festivities,” said Ms Naomi Chabikwa, who represented the sponsors.

Magareth Hugo School for the Blind is at the forefront in ensuring empowerment of children with disability through access to education and skills development.
