Chirumanzu RDC receives motorbikes

Story by Tafara Chikumira

Councillors at Chirumanzu Rural District Council have received motorbikes as part of government efforts to improve efficiency.

The recipients hailed the government for making their work easier.

“We are very grateful to our President Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa for remembering us through these motorbikes. We can now beam with hope that we can carry out our duties with little challenges,” a recipient told the ZBC News.

Another recipient said, “It’s indeed a step in the right direction. I can now move around my ward and cover programmes at ease. We are indeed witnessing Vision 2030 in motion.”

“It is indeed an exciting moment for us as we witness the development in our area. The President is indeed walking the talk. We are enjoying the fruits of the Second Republic’s development mantra. It is development after development in our area,” noted another recipient.

Government says local authorities should shape up and match the Second Republic’s efforts through improving service delivery.

“The issue of good governance remains a key pillar of the said national policy and the mobility of councillors improves visibility for our local leaders. It is very important that a councillor remains in touch with those who voted him/her into office. The coming in of motorbikes removes old, archaic and aged idea of leaders who forget their roots once voted into office,” said Local Government and Public Works Minister, Honourable Daniel Garwe.

Midlands Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Honourable Owen Ncube said, “This event confirms the transformational strategies of the New Dispensation under the able and visionary leadership of the President and 1st Secretary of ZANU PF, Head of State and Government, Commander in Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, and current SADC Chairman, His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Cde Dr E D Mnangagwa, to enhance service delivery by local authorities, targeting councillors as key pillars of grassroots governance systems that are fundamental towards leapfrogging rural community livelihoods in line with the shared desire to modernise and industrialise marginalised areas, guided by the mantra of leaving no one and no place behind. Commissioning of these motorbikes confirms the Second Republic’s desire for speedy and impactful, people-centric, and results-oriented implementation of programs and projects as we glide towards attainment of a prosperous and empowered upper middle-income society earlier than 2030.”

The event also saw government commissioning a solar system at Chirumanzu Rural District Council as the local authority moves to adopt the smart city concept.
