FIVE men from Chiredzi have appeared in court on charges of murder following the fatal assault of a suspected goat thief, it is alleged.
Wayne Makosi, aged 27, Decent Munguni, aged 26, Livas Mushava, aged 18, David Muwadzarira, aged 24, and Panashe Simbi, aged 19, all from Farm 15 in Hippo Valley, Chiredzi, are facing charges after allegedly assaulting Rutendo Ncube.
It is the State’s case that on March 2, Ncube, who is from Makondo Extension in Chiredzi, was caught slaughtering a goat he had allegedly stolen from Farm 15 in Hippo Valley, accompanied by an accomplice who remains at large.
The five accused men are said to have assaulted the suspected thief with sticks and fists, striking him all over his body until he fell unconscious and later died.
The accused then alerted the police, leading to their subsequent arrest.
