CHIREDZI – THE Chiredzi Cricket Club has pulled out all stops to make sure they excel in the 2025 National Cricket Premier league, which is expected to start in July.
After having been elevated to the National Cricket Premier league this year, Chiredzi Cricket Club says their debut season will provide a platform for the club to showcase their skills at the national level.
“I have played for this club for a while. As a player, I am excited to play NPL for Chiredzi. This is my home club, and this is a dream come true. It is difficult to secure such a position in other areas that are not your home areas,” the club’s Batsman Kelvin Mubvute said.
The side’s captain, Sabudu Seva, told the ZBC News that the team is ready to handle the pressure that comes with defending their title while maintaining their place in the national cricket league.
“We are the provincial champions in Masvingo, and we have a lot of talent. We are practising for the National Premier League, and we will perform well so that we also get into the top 8 so that we also qualify for the T20.”
Chiredzi Cricket Club Vice Chairman Liberty Macharaga noted that the team has recruited a number of players to bolster the squad for the National Premier League games.
“It was a tightly contested season, so much respect for teams we played with in the Masvingo Cricket Association League. We got the confirmation that we qualified for NPL, and this is our first time since its inception. This will go a long way in addressing issues to do with cricket development in the Lowveld,” he said.
“We have a lot of youngsters who are willing to play the game, and they will need inspiration from the club. We are getting new players in our team and the current players we have so that we can assemble a strong squad.”
Formed in 2021, the National Cricket Premier league is now in its fifth year running as the number of participants continues to increase.
