Chinese Ambassador commemorates 40 years of medical service in Zim

THE Chinese ambassador to Zimbabwe, His Excellency Mr Zhou Ding has expressed gratitude to Chinese medical teams for their unwavering dedication and service in Zimbabwe and highlighted the enduring friendship between Beijing and Harare.

In a speech read on his behalf by charge d’affaires Mr Cheng Yan, Ambassador Ding made the remarks in Harare this Thursday at a reception commemorating the 40th anniversary of the China medical teams in Zimbabwe.

He said since their first arrival in 1985, the Chinese medical teams have provided invaluable medical services, treating over 93 000 patients and establishing several health initiatives.

The 21st team which was honored with medals at the ceremony has treated more than 14 000 patients and contributed to local medical training through the establishment of a telemedicine center and other facilities.

Ambassador Ding also welcomed the newly arrived 22nd Chinese medical team, emphasising their role in fostering skills exchange and friendship.

Speaking at the same occasion, the Deputy Minister of Health and Childcare, Honourable Sleiman Kwidini said, the partnership between Zimbabwe and China in the healthcare sector serves as a shining example of what nations can achieve when they collaborate with mutual respect and friendship.

He also said China’s support to Zimbabwe has not been limited to healthcare alone.

During the Covid 19 pandemic, China donated 17 million vaccine doses and essential medical supplies to Zimbabwe, underscoring China’s commitment to the country’s well-being.
