IN celebration of Africa Day, Prospect Lithium Zimbabwe (PLZ), a Chinese lithium mining company based in Goromonzi, hosted a China–Zimbabwe Cultural Exchange Programme that highlighted the deepening ties between the two nations through shared cultural experiences.
The celebrations, which were held under the theme ‘Unity, Friendship and Cultural Exchange,’ brought together traditional leaders, company representatives, government officials, and locals.
Apart from witnessing exciting cultural performances and displays, the organisers this year added a soccer tournament for local teams in Goromonzi.
The guests were also treated to both Chinese and Zimbabwean traditional dishes, illustrating the growing unity between the two countries.
“Africa Day is not only a celebration of unity, independence, and development of the African continent, but also a platform for the world to better understand Africa and Zimbabwe,” Environmental Social and Governance PLZ director, Yu Long said.
“We firmly believe that the development of a company is closely linked to the development of the communities it operates in,” he added.
The government and the traditional leadership expressed gratitude to the company for its community social responsibility programmes in the Goromonzi district.
“I commend PLZ’s investment in sport and culture as it contributes to holistic community development. Let us commit to nurturing a generation that understands its roots while aspiring towards a prosperous future for all Zimbabweans,” Ministry of Sports, Arts and Culture director, Ethel Kambasha said.
“We thank you for organising the cultural exchange programme in Goromonzi district. This cultural exchange programme that coincides with Africa Day will undoubtedly strengthen the relationship between the Chinese and Zimbabwe,” Chief Chinamora.
Participating soccer teams received cash prizes and soccer kits.
