HARARE – THE body of national hero Cde Luke Mushore is now at Charles Gumbo barracks, where it will lie in state before burial at the National Heroes Acre this Monday.
Affectionately known by his Chimurenga name ‘Dick Joboringo, the national hero’s body was brought to Harare from his rural home in Centenary, Mashonaland Central this Sunday afternoon.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa will preside over the burial at the National Heroes Acre.
Speaking on preparations for the burial, the Director of Procurement in the Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, Colonel (Retired) Onward Tokoda, confirmed that all logistics are in place for a dignified send-off.
“The body of our National Hero Comrade Luke Mushore is now at the Zimbabwe Defence Forces Parlour, where it is going to lie in state as we prepare to lay him tomorrow at the National Heroes Acre. As a ministry, we are prepared and geared to see this event through,” he said.
“We request that all people should come in their numbers to attend the burial. The transport will be availed to the usual pick-up points in all areas in Harare.”
A former ZANU PF Provincial Chairperson for Mashonaland Central and former Member of Parliament for Muzarabani, Cde Mushore played a significant role in the country’s liberation struggle and post-independence development.
