AU Heads of State and Government Summit gets underway

THE 37th Ordinary Session of the Heads of State and Government Summit started in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia with a closed-door session for the heads of state after which the opening session will be held.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa is attending the summit which is looking at the various issues affecting the continent.
The Heads of State are expected to discuss the effects of climate change and mitigatory measures, war and the humanitarian crisis it causes as well as take stock of the progress the continent is making towards economic development.
The theme for this year’s summit is: ‘Educate an African Fit for the 21st Century: Building Resilient Education Systems for increased access to inclusive, lifelong, quality, and relevant learning in Africa.’
As President Mnangagwa attends the summit, Zimbabwe has made significant strides in the education sector with deliberate policies that have seen promotion of technology and innovation in the country’s tertiary institutions.
