PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa is expected to launch the Gukurahundi community hearings in Bulawayo this Sunday.
Addressing the media in Bulawayo this Saturday, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Mr Nick Mangwana said the launch of the hearings will be held at the Bulawayo State House this Sunday, where government ministers and traditional leaders will be in attendance.
“President Emmerson Mnangagwa will be in Bulawayo to launch the Gukurahundi Community Outreach programme. The initiative is considered to be of high national importance by the President and will be launched tomorrow at the State House in Bulawayo. Several key ministers whose portfolios have a role in this exercise will be in attendance.
“These include the Minister of National Housing and Social Amenities, Honourable Daniel Garwe, the Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, Honourable Kazembe Kazembe, the Minister of Publicity, Information, and Broadcasting Services, Honourable Dr Jenfan Muswere, the Minister of Labour and Social Welfare, Honourable July Moyo among others. The programme includes the presentation of reports and manuals by the President of the National Council of Chiefs, Senator Chief Mtshana Khumalo,” he said.
The Gukurahundi outreach programme will be led by chiefs.
The government says it has put in place adequate financial and material resources to ensure a smooth process of the hearings, which are a part of the national healing process.
