All set for hero burial this Monday

PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa will this Monday preside over the burial Of National Hero, Cde Jaison William Chezhira Chakaipa Chirinda who succumbed to diabetic-related complications last week.

The body of the late national Hero Cde Jaison Chirinda arrived at Charles Gumbo barracks this Sunday from his rural home in Matepatepa Mashonaland Central Province.

The body will lie In State at the barracks ahead of burial at the National shrine.
National Archives of Zimbabwe Director Ms Brenda Mamvura confirmed that it is all systems go for the burial of the liberation war stalwart.

“I can confirm that the body of our national hero Cde Chirinda is now at Charles Gumbo barracks in Harare. He will be buried at the national shrine tomorrow. We are encouraging people to come in numbers so that we give a befitting send-off in honour of the role he played during the liberation struggle.”

Cde Chezhira joined the liberation struggle in 1965 and went to Tanzania for military training at 3 Leaves Brigade. He later went to China for further military training. When he returned from China, he and others were tasked with what became the first military operations against the Rhodesian Forces in Sinoia (Chinhoyi).

He was later arrested for his active participation in politics and put in prison together with renowned revolutionaries including Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa, Cde Victor Mlambo, Cde Lloyd Gunda, Cde William Ndangana, Cde Herbert Samba, Cde Dzangasi Dube, and Cde Benjamin Mahaka.
