Zimbabwe’s iconic musical instrument, Mbira will take centre stage at the “Bira Rembira Festival” slated for this Friday at Gwanzura stadium in Harare.

Harare’s Gwanzura Stadium is set to come alive as the popular venue hosts the Bira Rembira Festival, honouring Zimbabwe’s revered musical instrument.

Mbira diva, Diana Samukange shared her enthusiasm with ZBC News.

“On the 27th of September, we are going to be celebrating Bira rembira. This is an event that will target all artists who play the Mbira and celebrate Mbira as an instrument. September has been placed as the month for Mbira. We will have so many artists from all walks of life to come and celebrate our culture through Mbira music especially since it has been chosen by UNESCO,” she said.

The star-studded line-up promises an unforgettable experience.

“We have different artists who will be performing, the likes of Jah Prayzah, myself, V Mhofu,  Andy Muridzo, Sasha Madhuve, Nyamasvisva and many other mbira artists who play the mbira from all four corners of Zimbabwe,” she added.

The festival will also celebrate Zimbabwe’s rich cultural heritage.
