AG’s office commits to delivering high-quality legal services

MASVINGO – THE Office of the Attorney General has reaffirmed its commitment to delivering high-quality legal services to government, anchored on the rule of law, transparency, and efficiency.

Speaking at a Mid-term Strategic Review Workshop held in Masvingo this Monday, the Attorney General, Mrs Virginia Mabhiza, said her office continues to play a central role in supporting government operations by ensuring sound legal guidance.

Reflecting on progress made over the past six months, Mrs Mabhiza highlighted several milestones, including improved court case clearance rates and progress on legislative drafting.

“As the Office is responsible for providing high-quality legal services to the government, we must ensure that our work is guided by a deep understanding of the law and a commitment to its application. This ensures we contribute meaningfully to the development of a just and prosperous society.

“Over the past six months of 2025, we have made significant progress, achieving key milestones that include improved court case clearance rates, demonstrating our dedication to timely justice delivery, bill drafting and clearance of backlog, showcasing our expertise in legislative drafting and review with 14 Bills are now in Parliament and more on the way among other achievements,” she said.

An Executive Secretary in the Office of the Attorney General, Mr Johanne Gandiwa, spoke on the Office’s vision of becoming a centre of excellence in the provision of legal services.

“As you are aware, our office is very critical in the provision of legal services to the government, so we have had a number of milestones between January and June. By the end of the year, our target is to draft about 30 bills that are instrumental for the economic development of our country, so we are reminding each one of us and each department to remain dedicated to the shared goal of transforming the Office into a leading legal advisory institution that effectively supports the government,” he said.

The Mid-term review workshop, running for the next four days, brings together staff from the Office of the Attorney General, legal experts and senior government officials responsible for evaluating the office’s performance.
