African journalists hail CIPCC training programmes

Story by Jonathan Marerwa in Beijing China

Training programmes run by the China International Press Communication Centre, (CIPCC), have been hailed as they go a long way in equipping media practitioners with skills in fact checking, unbiased reporting and recognising the impact of their narratives to ensure they provide accurate information that help citizens make informed decisions.

Samuel Ayammah, a reporter with the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation said this while speaking on behalf of English speaking journalists from Africa during a graduation ceremony held at the Renmin University of China in Beijing this Monday.

Ayammah applauded the CIPCC for coming up with a program that helps participants to understand China better and know more about the reality on the ground.

He thanked the leadership of the CIPCC and the Chinese government for granting the journalists an opportunity to receive high quality practical training.

Ayammah disclosed that visits to various provinces showed that the Chinese government and people are realising their dreams through commitment, hard work and excellent leadership adding that the journalists are now more knowledgeable and equipped to ensure that the true image and what China stands for is put out into the world.

He said the Chinese people have been a partner to developing countries particularly from Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean and Asia Pacific.

He noted that China’s relationship with Africa is in contrast the West’s often perceived condescending attitude saying that the Asian giant has since started such grouping as the Forum on China-Africa Co-operation, FOCAC, and the Belt and Road Initiative which has seen many African countries benefiting from the win-win co-operation initiatives.

He added that China, unlike Western powers, does not carry the historical burden of colonisation and it’s associated legacy of exploitation across the African continent, reiterating that China’s approach to helping Africa is based on individual countries’ needs.

Ayammah noted that China’s bilateral relations with African countries is rooted in mutually win-win agreements, historical solidarity and commitment to sharing the gains of modernisation that provide a strong foundation for Africa-China relations.
