CAPS United’s inconsistent form continued to undermine their Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title ambitions after a second successive defeat left them 13 points behind leaders Scottland.
Makepekepe slipped to a 1-0 defeat away to TelOne on Sunday, following an identical loss to FC Hunters, as their challenge lost further momentum.
The Harare giants remain sixth on the table with 39 points from 25 matches, having registered 10 wins, nine draws and six defeats.
Their recent form has been equally disappointing, with just 11 points collected from a possible 30 over their last 10 matches. During that period, they have managed only two victories, five draws and three defeats.
CAPS United’s only wins in that run came against ZPC Kariba and Manica Diamonds. They were held by Chicken Inn, Agama, Triangle United and Ngezi Platinum Stars, while defeats to Herentals College, FC Hunters and TelOne have severely weakened their title hopes.
The successive losses to teams battling near the bottom of the table have exposed Makepekepe’s inability to consistently convert opportunities into points.
With only nine matches remaining, CAPS United now face an uphill task to revive their campaign, with their title aspirations all but over.
