ZIMBABWE and Egypt have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in key sectors, including agriculture, energy, infrastructure development, information and communication technology, health and sport.
The commitment was reaffirmed during the 74th Egypt Independence Anniversary celebrations held in Harare on Thursday evening.
The commemorations highlighted the enduring friendship between the two countries, built on shared historical ties, mutual respect and cooperation across strategic sectors.
Representing the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Professor Amon Murwira, Secretary for Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Ambassador Albert Chimbindi, said Zimbabwe values its long-standing partnership with Egypt and remains committed to expanding economic diplomacy through increased trade, investment and technology transfer.
“This celebration reaffirms the enduring bond between our two nations, founded on mutual respect, solidarity and a shared commitment to African unity, peace and sustainable development. Zimbabwe remains open for business, and we encourage the private sectors of both countries to build mutually beneficial partnerships in manufacturing, renewable energy and industrialisation,” said Ambassador Chimbindi.
He added that cooperation in pharmaceuticals, biotechnology and human capital development, including recent cardiac surgeries conducted by Egyptian medical teams in Zimbabwe, demonstrates the tangible benefits of the two countries’ partnership.
Egyptian Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Her Excellency Dr Maha Serag El-Din Moustafa Kamel Ahmed Elserafy, said relations between the two countries continue to deepen through cooperation in health, education, agriculture, trade and investment.
“Our relationship was forged during the liberation struggle and has grown into a strong partnership spanning more than four decades. Recent engagements between President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and President Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa have reinforced our shared commitment to expanding cooperation and unlocking new trade and investment opportunities,” she said.
The Egyptian envoy also congratulated Zimbabwe on its election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, saying the development reflects growing confidence in the country’s leadership on continental and global issues.
She reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to working closely with Zimbabwe in advancing Africa’s common interests on the international stage.
