RULING ZANU PF has commended members in Manicaland Province for backing Constitutional Amendment Act No. 3, describing it as a key step in strengthening governance and advancing the country’s legislative agenda.
The remarks were made during the ZANU PF Manicaland Provincial Coordinating Committee meeting at Mutare Polytechnic College on Thursday.
The meeting reviewed provincial programmes and administrative matters, with party leaders saying Constitutional Amendment Act No. 3 reflects the Second Republic’s governance agenda.
ZANU PF Manicaland Provincial Chairperson Cde Tawanda Mukodza urged members to maintain support for the party ahead of the upcoming Ward 3 by-election in Sakubva.
“The people of Manicaland have always supported and will continue to support President Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030 agenda. Currently, let us all campaign for the party as we are going to have a by-election in Ward 3 next month,” he said.
Manicaland Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Advocate Misheck Mugadza said the province remains focused on driving economic development.
“Our focus remains on maximising our provincial agricultural potential, scaling up local value addition, and ensuring that grassroots communities directly feel the positive impact of these national development programmes,” he said.
Following the meeting, ZANU PF officially launched its campaign for the Mutare Municipality Ward 3 by-election in Sakubva.
Launching the campaign, ZANU PF Deputy National Political Commissar Cde Webster Shamu said a party victory would pave the way for improved service delivery in the constituency.
“We have heard your cries regarding the lack of clean water, poor roads and the breakdown of sanitation services here in Sakubva. I want to assure you today that ZANU PF is ready to step in and fix these challenges,” he said.
ZANU PF Ward 3 candidate Cde Portia Gwinyai pledged to address residents’ concerns while expanding empowerment programmes.
“We are pledging here and now that all the grievances of the Sakubva residents will be addressed. We are also targeting to roll out empowerment programmes for women,” she said.
The Mutare Municipality Ward 3 by-election will be held on August 1, with four candidates successfully nominated for the poll.
The seat fell vacant following the death of Councillor Tichaenzana Maita last month.
