Zimbabwe opens Billie Jean King Cup campaign in Botswana

ZIMBABWE’S women’s tennis team begins its Billie Jean King Cup Africa Group III campaign in Gaborone, Botswana, on Wednesday, targeting promotion to Africa Group II.

The team is aiming for a strong start as it bids to secure one of the promotion places to the next tier of the prestigious international women’s team competition.

Experienced Valeria Bhunu captains a youthful Zimbabwean side comprising Sasha Chimedza, Kudzai Chapepa, Chanelle Zhuwakini and Kuzivaishe Chapepa.

Eleven nations are competing in the tournament, with Zimbabwe drawn in Group A alongside hosts Botswana and Cameroon.

Zimbabwe will be looking to make a positive start to its campaign as it seeks to finish among the tournament’s top two teams, who will earn promotion to Africa Group II at the end of the competition.
