THE ZANU PF Women’s League has intensified its economic empowerment drive in the Midlands Province, with women in Mberengwa District receiving starter packs for farming, aquaculture and poultry projects.

The initiative is aimed at improving household incomes and expanding livelihood opportunities for women, in line with the Second Republic’s rural industrialisation agenda.

Beneficiaries welcomed the programme, saying it would help improve their livelihoods and strengthen rural economies.

“We want to applaud the Second Republic for walking the talk after elections. This will play a vital role in our lives, and we are going to improve livelihoods in our communities. As women, we were lagging in terms of being empowered, and with this, we are very, very happy.”

Another beneficiary said expanding women’s access to productive opportunities is key to community development.

“The focus on economic empowerment is essential. By providing women with access to finance, training, and markets, we can create more opportunities for women entrepreneurs, and this plays a key role towards rural development.”

ZANU PF Midlands Province Women’s League Chairperson, Cde Tsitsi Zhou said empowering women strengthens families and communities while contributing to national development.

“Once families have been empowered, communities will be capacitated, and the entire province will also be capacitated, leading to the attainment of Vision 2030. Women, here it is your time now; we need to help the country achieve its vision, and it can only be done through hard work,” she said.

ZANU PF Women’s League Political Commissar Senator Maybe Mbowa said the programme is expected to improve the economic status of women across the province.

“We are so happy that our women are participating in these projects, and it will uplift them. This is important because it plays a crucial role towards the growth of individuals and our province at large,” he said.

Mberengwa East legislator, Honourable Tasara Hungwe, pledged continued support for women’s empowerment initiatives, including the installation of a borehole at Bonda to support farming and other community water needs.

“I have come here to support these women because they have a huge role to play when it comes to nation-building. In supporting them here at Bonda, we are installing a borehole that will be used for farming and other water activities that are important to human lives,” he said.

The Women’s League also donated blankets and other goods to elderly residents in Mberengwa East, saying the gesture was inspired by the philanthropic work of First Lady Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa through the Angel of Hope Foundation.
