THE ruling ZANU-PF party continues to spearhead women’s economic empowerment projects across Zimbabwe, with more than 300 smallholder farmers benefiting under the Presidential Poultry Project in Mwenezi East, Masvingo Province.
Government’s vision for women’s empowerment is being strengthened through initiatives such as the Presidential Poultry Project, which has significantly boosted the incomes of many smallholder farmers nationwide.
The ruling ZANU-PF party has committed to this vision as it leads various economic empowerment projects that have opened opportunities for underserved communities.
Mwenezi East is the latest beneficiary under the Presidential Poultry project, receiving 40 000 day-old chicks for over 300 women this Saturday.
“Now we are going to start businesses that will see the improvement of livelihoods,” a beneficiary said.
“We thought it was a lie that we were going to be empowered, but now we see it happening,” a party member said.
“This is really a happy moment for us as rural women because we are being remembered,” a rural woman said.
“We are going to work and make sure that we send children to school and improve our lives,” a parent said.
Mwenezi East Legislator, Honourable Sheila Chikomo, implored the beneficiaries to seriously focus on these ventures.
“We can only go far when we work together. Everyone should be included when it comes to issues of empowerment. Let us work together to build our families and communities. Do not misuse these opportunities, let us be responsible and work towards building better lives and eventually transform our communities,” she said.
Women’s empowerment is one of the priorities for government under the Second Republic as it advances gender equality and equity.
