THE atmosphere is steadily building in Bulawayo ahead of this afternoon’s highly anticipated Battle of Zimbabwe, as Highlanders and Dynamos prepare to renew one of the country’s fiercest football rivalries at Barbourfields Stadium.
The excitement is evident across the city centre, where football supporters have been counting down to the second instalment of the Battle of Zimbabwe this season.
Highlanders supporters are optimistic that their side will make home advantage.
“We are happy the day has arrived. We may have had our in-house issues, but we are confident the boys will deliver this afternoon,” a fan said.
“We have always had a good game against Dynamos and we look forward to picking it up from where we left off. We are aware that Dynamos will be a tricky customer, but BF is our home,” another added.
Dynamos fans from different chapters have converged at the usual spot at Palace Hotel, hosted by the Bulawayo chapter.
Chairperson of the Bulawayo chapter, Mathias Taderera, says they are converging for a roadshow to create a carnival atmosphere ahead of the big game.
“We are happy some of our chapters are now here. We want to hold a roadshow to denounce anti-hooliganism. We want fans to understand that this is a family spot with three results: a win, a draw and a loss.”
“We want the best team to win. Football should unite us, not divide us. We are one people. Now is the day to end Bosso’s dominance. Our boys are ready and as the twelfth man, we will render them all the support,” a Dynamos fan said.
Prior to this encounter, the Highlanders’ camp has been in turmoil as players boycotted training, citing salary arrears. Dynamos will have none of that as they seek to keep pace with the leading pack.
