PRESIDENT, Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa, says land is a vital asset, which farmers across the country should utilise productively to ensure national food security.

He said this after handing over farming equipment to retired Chief Justice Luke Malaba at State House Harare, this Saturday.

The former Chief Justice served Zimbabwe with distinction for decades, and for his outstanding service spanning decades, unwavering commitment, and exemplary legal leadership within the Zimbabwean judiciary, President Mnangagwa presented him with an agricultural mechanisation package to facilitate his transition into retirement.

The package comprises a tractor, a Nissan UD truck, a boom sprayer, and a planter to facilitate productivity.

Dr Mnangagwa posted on his social media platforms, encouraging the former Chief Justice to turn his vast experience in the judiciary to agricultural productivity.

“As he retires from the judiciary, I encourage him to leverage his vast expertise in the agricultural sector. Our land is a vital asset, and productivity must persist at all levels. I applaud the retired Chief Justice for his dedication to the nation and wish him every success in his future agricultural ventures,” President said.

Zimbabwe has made huge strides towards food security with a number of initiatives, such as the mechanisation project being supported by Belarus, agricultural productivity booster kits, and the construction of dams to ensure full utilisation of land for national food security.
