PEOPLE with disabilities have expressed support for the Constitutional Amendment No. 3 Bill, describing it as an important measure for promoting leadership continuity, policy consistency and the uninterrupted implementation of national development programmes.
The endorsement comes as Parliament continues deliberations on the proposed constitutional amendments.
Speaking to ZBC News this Friday, Patron of People with Disabilities for ED, Cde Jimayi Muduvuri, said the constituency believes the Bill will help sustain development initiatives and maintain stability.
“We support Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 because we believe it promotes stability, continuity and policy consistency. As a constituency, we have witnessed the positive impact of Government programmes under the leadership of President Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa, particularly initiatives aimed at empowering vulnerable groups and improving access to opportunities for persons with disabilities.
“We therefore urge Members of Parliament to support the Bill as proposed so that national development projects currently underway can continue without disruption for the benefit of all Zimbabweans,” he said.
Cde Muduvuri also cited Zimbabwe’s recent election to a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council as evidence of growing international confidence in the country’s diplomatic engagement efforts.
“The successful election of Zimbabwe to the United Nations Security Council is a clear demonstration that the country’s engagement and re-engagement efforts are yielding positive results. It is recognition by the international community of Zimbabwe’s commitment to peace, dialogue and constructive co-operation among nations.
“As people with disabilities, we believe such achievements should be consolidated through leadership stability and continuity so that Zimbabwe continues to strengthen its standing on the global stage while advancing inclusive development at home,” he said.
The remarks add to ongoing public discourse surrounding the Constitutional Amendment No. 3 Bill, which remains under consideration by Parliament.
