A 24-year-old man from Harare has appeared in court facing allegations of raping a 17-year-old relative, with the court ordering his continued detention.
The accused, whose identity has been withheld to protect the complainant, appeared before the court on Monday.
According to the State, the incident allegedly occurred in March when the man entered the teenager’s room at night and overpowered her before raping her.
Prosecutors further allege that the accused continued to sexually abuse the complainant on several occasions.
The matter came to light after the teenager confided in a friend, who alerted an adult relative, leading to a police report.
The accused was remanded in custody and is expected to return to court on May 18.
