Calls intensify for adoption of Constitutional Amendment no. 3 Bill

MOMENTUM is building ahead of the anticipated parliamentary debate on the Constitutional Amendment Number 3 Bill, with growing support emerging from various sectors as the public consultation phase draws to a close.

With only weeks remaining before the Bill is tabled in the National Assembly, stakeholders are increasingly backing the proposed changes, which include extending the electoral cycle from five to seven years.

Stakeholders backing the Bill say the changes will provide continuity in governance and allow for the full implementation of development programmes under the Second Republic.

ZANU PF affiliates, including Teachers4ED and Varume Vanehutano4ED, say they are throwing their weight behind the proposed amendments, citing progress recorded in key sectors such as education.

“We strongly support the Constitutional Amendment Number 3 Bill because we have witnessed tremendous improvements in the education sector under the leadership of President Mnangagwa. We are also placing our weight and saying, yes, let us increase the cycle from five to seven so that our leaders have more time to implement their vision.

“More schools are being constructed, there is modernisation of schools’ infrastructure and improved connectivity, which bridges the digital divide between the rural and urban population as we move towards Vision 2030,” Teachers4ED Chairperson, Mr Ropafadzo Matemavi noted.

“We are throwing our weight behind the Bill because we need to see the completion of the developmental process under the leadership of President Mnangagwa. The government is supporting communities through various initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods, especially in rural communities,” Varume Vane Hutano4ED Chairperson, Mr Fletcher Dhamiyano weighed in.

The 90-day consultation period for the Bill ends on May 17, paving the way for the first reading in the National Assembly.
