A classic Zimbabwean football rivalry takes centre stage on Sunday when Highlanders host log leaders CAPS United in a blockbuster Castle Lager Premier Soccer League encounter at Barbourfields Stadium.
The fixture pits two of the country’s most storied clubs against each other, renewing a rivalry that has long captivated Zimbabwean football fans.
Highlanders head into the contest buoyed by a commanding 3-1 midweek victory over Chicken Inn, but coach Benjani Mwaruwari has urged his side to remain focused.
“We still have so much work to do, especially scraping goals. Yes, we scored three goals in our last match, but we have been struggling since the beginning of the season. We need to continue working hard, and we know how hard CAPS is going to be, so we need to be at our best,” he said.
Despite their recent momentum, Bosso are aware of the challenge posed by CAPS United, who currently sit atop the league standings.
Historically, Highlanders have enjoyed a formidable home advantage in this fixture. CAPS United’s last victory at Barbourfields came in 2015, underscoring the daunting task facing the Harare giants.
The weekend’s PSL action begins on Saturday, with MWOS taking on Scottland at Ngoni Stadium in another eagerly anticipated encounter.
Elsewhere, FC Hunters host Triangle United, while Simba Bhora face FC Platinum.
Ngezi Platinum Stars will battle AGAMA, as TelOne FC take on Herentals FC.
In Bulawayo, Bulawayo Chiefs clash with Chicken Inn, while Manica Diamonds face Hardrock FC.
Sunday will also see Dynamos host ZPC Kariba at Rufaro Stadium.
But the spotlight will firmly remain on Barbourfields, where pride, history and crucial league points will all be on the line.
