THE body of National Hero Major General (Rtd) Herbert Chingono has been taken to his farm in Mazowe, Mashonaland Central Province, where the local community will bid farewell this Friday.
His brother, Air Vice Marshal Biltim Chingono confirmed that a church service will be held at the farm before the body is returned to Harare later in the day.
The decorated soldier was born in 1958 in Rukweza Village, Makoni District, in Manicaland Province.
He attended Nyazura Adventist Mission before joining the liberation struggle, during which he crossed into Mozambique for military training. Following his training, he was deployed in the Nyanga and Gandanzara areas.
Major General (Rtd) Chingono, whose Chimurenga name was Cde Swift Chakanyuka, died on March 15 at his Pentland Farm in Mazowe.
He is survived by his wife, Loyse and six children.
