THE Government has boosted service delivery in Gokwe by commissioning utility vehicles and motorbikes for Gokwe Town and Rural District Councils, while traditional leaders were handed cellphones to enhance communication with government structures.

The move aims to improve mobility for councillors and leaders, ensuring they can respond promptly to community needs and emergencies.

Councillors welcomed the initiative, saying the vehicles and motorbikes will allow them to attend meetings, mobilise communities, and perform duties efficiently.

“It is a critical step being initiated by our President to help us with mobility issues. We need to move around the constituency doing work, and today, we have been granted the opportunity to do our work at ease,” Gokwe Rura Councillor Abraham Nyamazana

“We have been granted the opportunity to be visible in our communities. The motorbikes will help us to attend critical meetings and mobilise people in our constituencies,” Gokwe Town Councillor, Vengesai Chipfuko added.

Traditional leaders who received cell phones say the gadgets will help in communicating critical messages in communities and among government officers.

“In our communities, we have a critical role to communicate critical issues from the community to the authorities. We sometimes experience some disasters that require attention from authorities. The gadgets will also help us to relay information to warn communities when there is a pending danger,” Headman Mumbengezegwa said.

Government commended efforts by the local councils, saying the procurement of utility vehicles dovetails with its industrialisation agenda.

“The Second Republic has adopted the devolution and decentralisation agenda, which fully supports efficient revenue collection by local authorities as a basis for timeous provision of quality, accessible and affordable services to residents and other stakeholders among them vendors, investors youths women church fraternity and persons with disabilities as provided under section 22 of our Constitution,” Midlands Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Owen Ncube noted.

The need to improve service delivery by local authorities feeds into the country’s economic development agenda.
