THE body of national hero Samuel Mpabanga has been flown to his rural home in Mapate, Gwanda, where the local community is expected to pay its final respects to one of Matabeleland South’s most distinguished sons.
A family representative, Ms Thandekile Mpabanga, said the body was scheduled to pass through the late Brigadier General’s farm in West Nicholson before proceeding to Mapate.
“We are on our way to Mapate. At the farm, we have been advised that because of the weather, we will not land. We will proceed after a circular flypast to Mapate, our rural home,” she said.
The body will later be returned to Bulawayo before being airlifted to Harare on Tuesday for burial at the National Heroes Acre.
Brigadier General (Rtd) Mpabanga, a decorated liberation war veteran, died on February 9 following a long illness and has been declared a national hero in recognition of his service to the country.
