THE High Court has sentenced a Penhalonga miner to 25 years’ imprisonment after convicting him of murdering a local man during an unprovoked attack at Domborutinhira Business Centre in October 2024.
In a statement this Wednesday, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) confirmed that Tendai Afonzo of Village 7, Domborutinhira, was found guilty of killing Luckmore Dziire.
“On 1 October 2024, Afonzo fatally stabbed Luckmore Dziire, a well-known mental patient from the same community, at Domborutinhira Business Centre. The offender, armed with an okapi knife, encountered the deceased at a local shop and launched a vicious, unprovoked attack, stabbing him multiple times,” the NPAZ said.
A post-mortem examination confirmed that Dziire died from severe blood loss resulting in hypovolaemic shock. His body was later discovered on a shop veranda by members of the public.
The court said the 25-year custodial sentence reflects its firm stance against violent crime, particularly in cases involving vulnerable and defenceless members of the community.
