New polyclinic brings relief to Zvishavane community

RESIDENTS of Zvishavane have welcomed the completion of Makwasha Polyclinic, a new healthcare facility expected to open to the public early next month, describing it as a timely intervention that will significantly improve access to medical services in the area.

The clinic forms part of wider efforts to decentralise essential healthcare delivery and ensure that communities are served closer to where they live. Once operational, Makwasha Polyclinic is expected to reduce pressure on existing facilities while strengthening disease prevention and primary care services.

Local residents say the development reflects tangible progress in improving community welfare.

“Since the coming in of the Second Republic, there have been significant changes in our area. We now have a complete healthcare facility that will help us in thwarting diseases such as cholera,” a resident said.

“Clinics play a pivotal role in fighting emerging issues that include cholera and drug and substance abuse as guided under the harm reduction, treatment, and rehabilitation pillar,” another stated.

Midlands Minister of State for Provincial affairs and Devolution, Honourable Owen Ncube, says the construction of Makwasha Polyclinic Clinic attests to the Second Republic’s commitment to deliver impactful and people-centric programmes for its people.

“This confirms that Zvishavane Town Council emulates and complements the Second Republic’s health care transformation strategy under the stewardship of President Emmerson Mnangagwa as we journey towards the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal number 3 of good health and well-being, address the livelihoods of communities and attain an upper middle-income society earlier than 2030.”

While roads, energy and industrial assets often dominate the discourse, healthcare infrastructure occupies a uniquely moral and strategic space.

Devolution funds have enabled provinces and local authorities to upgrade facilities in line with local needs, ensuring that modern healthcare is not confined to metropolitan centres.
