The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has commissioned a fleet of high-powered boats, patrol motorcycles and specialised canine unit vehicles in a move aimed at strengthening law enforcement and emergency response across the country.
Police Commissioner-General Stephen Mutamba officially handed over the new assets, which will be deployed to all police provinces and stations nationwide as part of a broader strategy to modernise policing and improve mobility.

The newly acquired boats will be used for patrols along major rivers and lakes, water-based escort duties and rescue operations, enhancing the police force’s ability to respond to incidents on Zimbabwe’s waterways.
According to ZRP, the boats will be strategically stationed to bolster law enforcement coverage and improve response capacity in areas previously difficult to police using conventional means.
At the same time, a fleet of patrol motorcycles has been introduced to improve response times, particularly in areas with challenging terrain. The motorcycles will be deployed in farming communities, remote rural districts and central business areas, enabling officers to attend scenes quickly and conduct routine patrols more efficiently.
The police canine section has also received new specialised vehicles to support crime detection and public order management. The vehicles will be used to transport trained dogs for suspect tracking, drug detection, search operations and crowd control duties.
ZRP said the deployment of the new fleet reflects its commitment to enhancing service delivery and ensuring effective policing across all geographic conditions.
“The high powered boats will be strategically deployed in police provinces and stations to strengthen law enforcement and emergency response capabilities. In the same vein, the Commissioner-General of Police commissioned Police Bikes for scene attendance and patrols in areas with rugged terrain. These include farming communities, rural areas and central business districts in all the country’s provinces. As part of efforts to provide improved and quality service to Zimbabweans, the ZRP also commissioned new vehicles for use by Police Canine (Dog section) team to attend to reports of crime, tracking suspects, manage public order situations, sniffing for drugs and general searches during crowd control activities,” the police said in a statement.
The commissioning of the equipment is expected to strengthen operational readiness, improve emergency response and enhance crime prevention efforts nationwide.
