THE Government has continued to extend social support to vulnerable communities into the New Year, with the elderly and people living with disabilities in Beitbridge receiving grocery hampers as part of ongoing social protection efforts under the Second Republic.
The beneficiaries, drawn from communities under Chief Tshitaudze in Beitbridge District, welcomed the gesture, saying it has brought renewed hope and improved food security at household level.
Some of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the timely intervention.
“Government has really helped me. I received these groceries at a time when I had nothing to provide for the orphans I stay with,” said one beneficiary.
Another elderly recipient said the support had restored dignity and hope.
We were going through difficult times, watching others celebrate, but now we are entering the New Year with renewed hope,” she said.
Local leadership noted that the initiative will enhance the dignity and quality of life of vulnerable members of the community.
Donsa Village Head, Mr Tamaha Langalanga, said the assistance would go a long way in ensuring food security.
“We are grateful for this support. It will help the elderly and people living with disabilities to have food on their tables like everyone else. As a community, we work together to ensure no one is left behind,” he said.
ZANU PF Central Committee Member, Cde Metrine Mudau, said the gesture symbolised unity and care.
“These grocery hampers represent love and unity, bringing families together as they celebrate the festive season,” she said.
Beitbridge Senator, Honourable Tambudzani Mohadi, reaffirmed Government’s commitment to supporting vulnerable communities.
“We considered it important to uphold the right to food and a decent life for the elderly and people living with disabilities, hence the provision of these hampers so they can celebrate the New Year with others,” she said.
Since its inception in 2017, the Second Republic has continued to roll out social safety nets aimed at improving the welfare of vulnerable communities across the country.
